Yet Another Honor Killing
Police in the Turkish city of Istanbul have detained a father on suspicion of murdering his 14-year-old daughter after she was raped, reports say.
The man and a dozen relatives held with him are reportedly accused of taking a collective decision to kill the girl “for bringing shame on the family name.”
And so the horrors continue.
UPDATE: More:
Nuran Halitogullari was taken captive and raped late last month by a man while she was going to a market in Istanbul. He kept her prisoner in his home for four days, the papers said.
Police then arrested him and returned Nuran to her parents, but the family decided she must die for “soiling” their name. Her father and 17-year-old brother strangled her with a wire.
They buried her body in a forest and also tried to kill her rapist but he was already in police custody.
Irradiation or Christianization. Nothing else is drastic enough to cure the Muslim world of what ails it.
The only solution I could think of is to legalize society-wide honor killings, i.e., make it legal for any outraged citizens to kill anyone who commits an honor killing, on the theory that the honor killing itself has besmirched the community’s good name. If no locals will volunteer, I’m sure some foreigners would be glad to pitch in.
