Whassup, Honky?

By way of OTB (which was merely the messenger, and should thus be spared the snark) comes this blurb:

Racism:
The systematic subordination of members of targeted racial groups who have relatively little social power in the United States (Blacks, Latino/as, Native Americans, and Asians), by the members of the agent racial group who have relatively more social power (Whites).

Now, before we get to the good part, let’s review the definitions of
subordinate, agent and power, shall we? You’ll find that all three words describe relationships in which one force or entity is explicitly more efficacious than another and, in regards to the word “agent”, that the definition itself implies consent by one entity to allow the other to act on its behalf.

In other words, this definition of “racism” coined by the Seattle Public Schools — which, incidentally, bears little resemblance to the actual definition of racism — states that one group (Whites) has methodically and ceaselessly demonstrated more efficacy and thus earned greater social power than other groups. Isn’t that, well, a little racist itself?

Frankly, I’m getting pretty damn sick of people trying to make me feel guilty for having been born white. It’s almost as if I’m expected to apologize for an immutable characteristic thrust upon me by a quirk of familial couplings and genetics, one so greatly offensive to some people that I — by virtue of having been born — am obligated to be ashamed of my skin color while ensuring that nobody else feels bad for the color of theirs.

So let me point this out for the record: I am not White. I am more peach-colored, damn it, and I find it both racist and offensive to label my genetic history with such an inaccurate, racially insensitive color description.

Power to the Peach People!

Personally, I don’t worry about such nonsense. My attitude is:

I feel no shame or guilt concerning my race (Anglo-Saxon). I offer no apologies or excuses for my ancestors and their actions. Those people of long ago made me and mine the most successful people in human history and I for one appreciate it. If you have a problem with this then deal with it without my assistance. Suck it up, Ms./Mr. Skye Moonbeam! ;-)
