Still No Sign Of DHL
After yesterday’s hassle trying to get an answer from DHL as to why my package still isn’t here, I’ve given up.
I don’t have the time to sit on hold while yet another DHL customer service rep looks up the problem and gives me the same tired “It should arrive today” spiel which, after all this time, amounts to little more than a lie.
I don’t have the patience to deal with a company that hangs up on me. Repeatedly.
I sure don’t have the brain cells to spare to continue wondering why my 2-day DHL delivery is now two weeks past due.
Heck, FedEx managed to make deliveries even after one of its trucks was hijacked in Manhattan!
Maybe that’s what I need to do: stand on a busy corner in Kansas City, Missouri waiting for the DHL Express van to drive by, then waylay the idiot and rummage through the van in search of my package.
On the other hand, I do not look good in prison orange, so I’ve reordered everything from Amazon and they’re shipping my stuff via UPS.
UPDATE: Looks like there are a lot of Amazon customers upset at DHL. They’ve even started a discussion thread begging Amazon.com to stop using DHL because it has so many delivery problems. Naturally, I’ve thrown in my two cents, too.
UPDATE TWO: Make that two threads of customers unhappy with Amazon using DHL.
UPDATE THREE: This isn’t the end of the story, folks. My package did finally arrive, and then DHL did something that amazed me!

Oh my god. I would be in a much uglier frame of mind. There has GOT to be a way to stick it to DHL. Bastids.
Oh, I think that continuing to blog about how DHL Express in Kansas City did not deliver my package on time … or even at ALL … will eventually stick it to them.
Ahem.
I feel your pain. A client of my business needed a piece to be used as a holiday gift. I order my parts through my supplier with 2 day express shipping paid for….
We are now on day 4 , still no package, there tracking says it just left Kansas (Note I am in North Carolina)
I am extremely displeased, because not only have I had to deal with very similar “customer support” nightmares, but then to have them essentially tell me (it will get there when it gets there) I have to call my client and explain my sorrow for not being able to get the item they were going to give as a gift ready on time.
I will be avoiding DHL for any and all future business transactions.
I think that’s a very wise decision, Brian, since customers usually have a hard time not blaming the seller for delivery problems. I’m sorry that you and your customer are having to go through this, too, particularly since it concerns a holiday gift.
I work for DHL. It’s the busy Chistmas season so deliveries will be delayed due to the surge in volume. Also, some service centers may be having to staff extra drivers that may be untrained and don’t know the area as well as the regular driver does. DHL will be focusing on customer service in 2008 after tying to gain market share since their entry into the United States. Please have patience and understanding.
Doug, I’m pleased to hear that DHL is aware of the need to improve customer service. However, if you’ve looked at my tracking info here you can probably understand why I am OUT of patience and feel that I have been repeatedly lied to.
Maybe it’s all customer service. My horror show this season has been with Amazon’s Thai center.
I’m not sure, but I think somewhere around the 5th moron I dealt with I found myself losing it. I know I treated the last rep to a fairly long string of multi-syllable words you can’t say on basic cable.
Ho freakin’ ho.
If they really did record the conversation “for training purposes” I’m sure it will make for interesting classroom fare: “Teacher, what does he mean? Can a customer service representative really do that with a dog and his mother at the same time?”

Too funny!
I actually thought about recording my calls with DHL and now wish I had. What a clip that would be: “Your package will arrive today…My package isn’t here…Your package will arrive today…My package STILL isn’t here… Your package will arrive today… WHERE IS MY PACKAGE… Thank you for calling DHL, we will give your call and delivery the attention it deserves.”
Obviously, DHL has a different opinion about that last point than I do.
