Informal Straw Poll?

by Venomous Kate

I’ve read Lifehacker since it launched back in 2005. During all that time, I’ve considered it a necessary part of my morning routine (although it did take some practice to stop refreshing the page for the latest hacks all day and get back to doing something productive). One thing I’ve never seen on the site until now? Politics.

Earlier this weekend, editor Gina Trapani posted a very small reference to Obama’s latest attack ad which blasts John McCain’s unfamiliarity with computers and email. (The ad conveniently ignores that “McCain’s severe war injuries prevent him from combing his hair, typing on a keyboard, or tying his shoes”.)

Trapani’s point was simply to address how tech affects our leaders and our daily lives. The result, however, has been one of the most commented posts at Lifehacker in quite some time. (125 at last count)

Of particular interest? Just how large the majority of pro-McCain commenters are. (They’re second only to those urging Lifehacker to stay clear of political posts.)

Considering that Lifehacker is part of the uber-liberal Gawker media empire, one would ordinarily assume its audience would have similar political leanings. Apparently that’s not the case.

Or else Obama really does have a big surprise coming in November.

  2. Oh let’s hope Obama gets his eyes opened in November after McCain wins the election.

  3. Oh boy, I love surprises!

Even with the free pass that the MSM gives Obamarama and Josephine while going full court press on Has-a-brain McCain and Sarah Scare-em-all Palin they’re finding that not everyone has turned into lemmings. I think the Obamaromulians are in for a surprise November 4th.

  4. It should be noted (and I don’t know if it was addressed in the comments over there) that Clinton only sent two emails during his presidency.

  5. I can only smile smugly. Can’t wait until November.

  6. You know, in all honesty, the only thing I can fault about Clinton is his fundamental dishonesty. His wife’s obviously willing to live with his philandering – I remember reading about his wayward habits before he was elected the first time, so if she’s willing to turn a blind eye to it, who cares? He’s certainly not the first guy occupying the Oval Office to be getting some on the side.

Openly lying about it, even after he’d gotten caught, and under oath….now, that’s a different matter. I didn’t agree with the impeachment against him at the time, and I still don’t think it was worth the time and effort. The overzealous pursuit of impeachment then, and the later abuses of pork spending by the Republican majority are, in my opinion, the major causes that they lost control of Congress, and rightly so.

  7. Not me, I’d rather see a 30 point lopsided victory in favor of Palin (and whoever that old guy is) than to go through yet another agonizing nailbiter every 4 years.

  8. Sure, I want a president capable of using a computer. Just think how much we’d save in Secret Service costs if he did all his shopping on Amazon!

Remember how hard it was in that movie for the president to send his girlfriend a dozen roses? (someone here will come up with name, I’m too lazy to IMDB right now)

It’s essential that a president know how to order them from 1-800-flowers.com. Right? What an inefficient use of time for the most powerful person in the world to be visiting a flower shop!

  9. Could it be because of the liberal media giving us Obama 24/7 over the last two years and that he is perfect in everyway that people are just sick of him and his liberal ideas

  10. I suppose that’s a possibility. It’s also possible that the liberal media believes their own reports, whereas many non-media folks doubt whatever comes out of the press. So when MSM describes Obama as the Second Coming, normal people chuckle and don’t believe a word of it.
