Kansas City, Here I Come!
I’ve been waiting patiently for official confirmation before making this announcement. You know how it is: you find out that something you want is likely to happen, but if you share the news ahead of time it’s jinxed and almost guaranteed to fall through. So I’ve been waiting. Patiently. Quite a while. A long while, in fact. And, since patience isn’t one of my virtues, that’s been hard. But the day is here. It’s official, and I couldn’t be happier about it.
We’re moving back to Kansas City!
Now, I know there are folks who’re thinking to themselves, “You’re happy about that?! Why? You live in Hawaii, for chrissakes. Why would you want to leave???”
I miss home. I miss the changing seasons, soft fuzzy sweaters, the smell of springtime dew, crimson autumn leaves. I miss my friends of the past 17 years. I miss trips to Grandma and Grandpa’s lake house in the summer, and their visits to our house at Thanksgiving. I miss salad and soup bars in the grocery store, and being able to buy Tab soda whenever I want.
So, Kansas City, here we come… right back where we started from.
As if that wasn’t happy enough news: we also have not one, not two, but three offers on the house. At last!!!
Yes, Toto, there’s no place like home. There’s no place like home. There’s no place like…. home.

being able to buy Tab soda whenever I want.
I submit that one of the reasons for your enduring popularity is that you are a woman who has her priorities in order.
Congratulations on the house offers and the return to the continental U.S. Hope it all goes as smoothly as moves ever can.
Great big Congrats
Congrats!
Missouri or Kansas?
OutSTANDING!
Congratulations, Kate!
When’s the happy day?
You miss summers hot enough to fry an egg on the hood of your car? You miss snow asshole deep and temperatures cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey?
Are you fucking nuts?!?
WOOT! Driving distance, at last!
Watch out, continental United States….
[snif] I’ma so happy!
You’re nuts! But if it makes you happy…..
I am very happy for you. Have a safe trip home.
Congrats!
You ain’t lying, there’s no place like home!! Happy for ya! (altho I think I’d take an island retreat over the chiefs any ole day)
WooHoo! We’ll practically be neighbors. Congrats!
cool. i just today arrived in san antonio. so, moving is in the air!

Awesome news, Kate. Glad to hear it.
That’s great news. We need more residents in Kansas City with conservative values. Did you grow up there? I grew up on the East Side, my husband grew up in the Northeast area.
Welcome back to the contiguous 48 from the Colorado Rocky Mountains.
Oh major congratulations!!! I’m so glad things are working out for you! I have some very good friends who live in KC - one day I may even get there to visit them.
I know what you mean about jinxing stuff - not talking about it… doesn’t seem to be working for me though *sigh* I AM glad it’s working for you!!!
Congratulations!!!! It’s always nice to end up in your Utopia!!!!
Welcome back… It’s still probably the same — well, except for a new intersection at Grandview Triangle… And perpetual construction at Nelson Atkins.
Hmm, so your a Yankee, I am mildly surprised.
I used to live in Kansas City, but moved to the East side (St. Louis) three years ago — just in time for the Rams to start losing Super Bowls. But remember, it’s not the Tabs, but the BarBQ that you’ll love!
Kate - welcome back, happy ta have ya within shouting distance of the Castle!
Ralph - this summer’s been mild, and it’s been decades since KC had butt-deep snow. It ain’t *that* far north.
Teresa - we can have a mid-west bloggermeet.
You realize, of course, that this means you’re going to wind up meeting the likes of me.
Congrats! Welcome back to the state.
hln
John that would be so cool - oh yeah, Heather and Brian would have to come too - St. Louis is a bit closer than Chicago *grin* Then of course Kelley could take to the road and bring a bit of southern charm to the whole lot of us.
Congrats on returning to your “home”. Was just up in KC for a recent funeral for my wife’s uncle. Some of her family lives in Overland Park. I’ve always enjoyed KC and all its wonderful fountains.
Although not as overwhelming as the Rockies, I will always have a soft spot in my heart for the Flint Hills. Just a beautiful section of the US.
Kansas or Missouri? Either way will be within driving distance.
We’ll be in Kansas. Probably somewhere around Lenexa/Overland Park, or possibly closer to Leavenworth. Unlike Missouri, Kansas doesn’t tax retirement income so - now that Hubby’s getting out of the Army - it’s a good move for us.
Congratulations!
