Since I couldn’t find a power cord for my laptop anywhere on the island (Dude, I have a Dell!), I’m posting from the computer at the Mail Center on Kaneohe Marine Corps Base where the cost is tolerable but my 4-year-old’s restlessness is not. Luckily, when I contacted Dell yesterday they informed me that my laptop is still under warranty, and so is the power cord. They’re overnighting my replacement, which should arrive at my house around 3 p.m. (Right about the time I’ll get home, too.)
So look for the Snark Hunt tonight when I can post from my own computer. After that, I have a feeling I’ve a huge backlog of email to catch up on.

My brother was stationed at Kaneohe for two years. Normal rotation is only a year, but my poor, stupid brother somehow failed and had to spend a second year there.
Hawaii may seem like paradise, but not on a lance corporal’s (and later, PFC’s, but that’s another dumb brother story) salary.

Anything you can get under warranty for free rules. Hell free in general rules.

Me, I want to hear the story on how one ruins a power cord.

Might want to order a spare power cord. I don’t even want to think about how anyone manages to ruin a power cord. Well yes I do, but it involves some pretty kinky stuff with bean dip, feathers and a wet suit, but that is for another time.

I actually have no idea how I ruined it. One day – about a week ago – I noticed the battery icon in my task bar kept lighting up even when the machine was plugged in. I finally figured out that one of the wires within the adapter was loose, and the only way to ensure power was to arrange everything just so. All that was fine and dandy, until the other night when I moved the laptop off the dining table because we were having company for dinner. Then it went kaput, and hadn’t worked since.
