WTG Kim!
Congratulations to my friend Kim who’s celebrating being two years smoke-free today.
Having quit repeatedly only to fail and try again, I have to say how impressed I am. Kicking the smoking habit is by far the hardest thing I’ve ever tried to do.
In other news, my in-laws are here which is why I’m out on the patio having a cigarette right now. Hey, I’ve got to have something to do with my hands that won’t cause offense or injury.

They’re backkkkkk!

Yep. Seems like just yesterday I was celebrating the sight of their rear license plate from my driveway.
I don’t miss those days, especially when they would ask, “Do you want a piece of advice?” It didn’t matter how I answered, I got it anyways …

I’ve got a serious hate-on for that plug-in. That said, it has something to do with your site’s default RSS feed.

This doesn’t really seem to be on-topic.
Maybe a couple of decades ago, I was going to stop for a pack of Camels, and my ex-wife said “Didn’t you stop yesterday?”
I guess I had said that, and I stopped smoking for a couple years. Until we spent some time in Paris, and she started somking Galois, or whatever they are called. I thought they were vile (and I was right), but I was tempted (the woman temped me) into tobacco.
I still smoke, and God Only Knows what she does. But at least I smoke Commanders (on the top,it says “America’s Finest Cigarette”, and I think they are correct. But, unless you listened to Douglas Edwards and the Evening News 50 years ago, you wouldn’t have heard about them.
And we hope that you are still losing weight. I don’t worry about weight; mine matches what I do; and I don’t have to worry about my boobs.
I’m one week smoke-free, myself. I’m using Chantix, and it’s amazing stuff. It works. And I’m not cranky, wired and eating everything in sight, either.
Congratulations! I plan to ask my MD about Chantix next time I’m there, too.
Actually, Wellbutrin (also sold as something else) will really stop your smoking. Unfortunately, I took it as an anti-depressant, and I am part of the 3% of the test base where it caused trembling. I got tired of not being able to pour myself a glass of milk. I actually got even more tired when picking up a bottle of beer caused it to overflow.
So I continue smoking, and I actually enjoy a cigarette. I don’t have the patience for a pipe, but I know I’ll have to take to that eventually.
Best of luck on the *visitors*. I have been blessed in that both sets of those who give birth to my ex and my current spousal unit, are real salt of the earth folk. Never had a problem with either set.
As to the smoking. We have done the “we only smoke outside (or in the garage) trick. It has brought us down to aprox half a pack a day for each of us. The Admiral was doing between 1-2 packs a day, I was a pack a day fella. So, it has helped. Now we have downsized from 100’s to Kings. A lot can be said for incrementalism if used the right way. Sooner or later we will stop (or at least limit it to pubs/bars/taverns which still believe in the patrons freedom of choice…something no longer to be found in IL… and one of the main reasons I still smoke!!!) In any case, best of luck with loosening yourself from the clutches of madam nicotine.
OMG they are driving me up a freaking wall! And the worst part is that VH — who barely escapes a slow death at least once a week — begins behaving just like them when they’re around.
Seriously, if you ever read about 2 old people and a really hot looking man being found impaled on martini toothpicks in Kansas, well, you should just assume that the Big-Eyed Boy and I are having a blast in Belize.
I’m sorry about the inlaws, can’t help with that one. But one of the bloggers I recently met (Shamrocketship) had a post up about how she had quit smoking. Don’t know if it will help or not but it’s worth throwing out there if anyone is interested. She used the book:
The Easy Way to Quit Smoking by Allen Carr***
***disclaimer - this is not advice, merely the passing on of info from someone who has found something that worked very well for her. YMMV. If you wanted to quit and this works for you… YAY! If it doesn’t work, keep trying other things. If you don’t want to quit then light one up - I have no issue with smokers *grin*
