I haven't read that one, but I'll look for it at the bookstore on my next trip. We have a wonderful place on the square here that I just visited for the first time the other day: piles and piles of books from every genre, all watched over by a woman who clearly loves the written word (and a dog who clearly loves being around books, too).

It's an excellent read, and one of the first books I've read in a while where I didn't find myself cursing the copy editor. Liss has a perfect sense of detail, timing and pace.

Kate, I should have guessed you were a Texas woman. No wonder I like you so much. You are clearly, as an acquaintance of from Norman, OK once put it, "tonier".

Years ago when I lived in New Mexico, my best little honey ever was from Dallas. She had all the steel, all the resourcefulness, and all the capacity to put dinner on the table for guests in the good china after the tornado or the Commanche attack. I'd have married her in a heartbeat, but she moved on.

I'll keep an eye out for the book. I'm a fan of the time and place. It's the beginning of when America was the most interesting--her first 50 years. By the way, have you ever read Gore Vidal's Burr?. If you have, I'd like to know how you think it compares.
