Did He Just Say That?
Laying on the sofa, still nursing my back, I had to rewind Top Chef not once but twice to be certain I heard what I thought I heard: Electric Venom soup, a broth made from the combination of cooked eel and snake, from Chef Brian.
To which Anthony Bourdain (who remains on my list) says “I would love this dish if I was drunk. I feel like I should be eating it at the bar.”
It’s so nice to be both loved and understood.
UPDATE: I’ve made sure the folks at Top Chef know that I’m quite willing to show Anthony Bourdain how perfectly Electric Venom and drinking go together. He’s welcome anytime. I’ll buy the first round or six.

I thought of you, too! Care to post your famous recipe?
The only “Electric Venom soup” recipe I know off the top of my head goes like this:
Ingredients
1 bottle top-quality vodka
1 jar pitted green Picholine olives
1 large fryer chicken, cut up
1 Vidalia onion
4 long French carrots
4 stalks celery
small bunch fresh sage
1 sprig rosemary
8 peppercorns
salt to taste
water
Directions
1. Open bottle of vodka. Open jar of olives. Set both aside.
2. Put remaining ingredients in stock pot. Set heat to simmer.
3. Grab bottle of vodka, olives, a chilled glass and some ice.
4. Go sit somewhere with a nice view.
5. Pour vodka in glass. Add ice. Swirl. Drink. Nibble on olives. Smoke cigarette. (Optional)
6. Repeat step 6 as needed.
7. Return indoors. Realize making soup takes too much effort.
8. Decide to drink one’s dinner by repeating steps 4 through 6.
Okay, how weird is that? It’s 11:45 p.m., and as I sit here watching that very episode of Top Chef, I’m also going through the Alexa project blogroll! Spooky.
