Stung By Seinfeld’s Deception

Just last month, I raced to buy a copy of the cookbook by Jessica Seinfeld (yes, Jerry’s wife) that’s aimed at Moms looking to sneak more fruits and veggies into their kids’ diets while eliminating the health-hazards of fats, sugars and other Harmful Foods.

Jerry himself is such a proponent of his wife’s healthier-than-thou book that he went on Letterman to defend her against claims of plagiarism and touted her efforts to ensure their kids’ dietary health.

So, imagine my surprise when the Big-Eyed Boy came racing up to me to draw my attention to a McDonald’s commercial featuring Jerry Seinfeld urging kids, via his Bee Movie character, to buy the fast-food chain’s deep-fried “chicken” nuggets and greasy burgers.

Somehow, I feel like I just got stung.

Go ahead and hide the vegetables. Moms are already sneaking the Ritalin into their children’s diet. Hey, why don’t they hide the homework by calling it playtime. Yeh, math is the new baseball. Give me a break! What great deniers were are raising.

About the controversial (read: plagiarized?)

TWO books which are:

both cookbooks
shown to the same publisher
in the same year
with the same UNIQUE recipes
on the same UNIQUE cooking concept
by authors who live in the same city
with nearly IDENTICAL book covers
both pitched to OPRAH

IS JUST A COINCIDENCE?

I agree, Shelly & Taste Like Crazy. I don’t think it’s a “coincidence”, and I think Jerry’s shilling of Mickey D’s to pad his pocket pretty much demonstrates that the Seinfeld family doesn’t practice what they (plagiarize) to preach.

That said, I’m also rather incensed that the ONLY other place I’ve found bitching about this until 3 hours ago was the — ugh — Huffington Post.

Seriously, the day that Arianna and I have anything more in common than a hairstyle (and mine’s just because I haven’t been to the salon lately), is a scary day for all of us.
