Back in my childhood — which my kids like to refer to as the Dark Ages — Halloween didn’t seem like that big of a deal. For the most part, my mother was decidedly anti-Halloween and would only agree to let me dress up for the school’s costume party. Usually my costume was a last-minute thing: I’d wear my rattiest clothes and smear charcoal on my face to go as a hobo, or my mother would cut holes out of an old bed sheet and claim I looked like a ghost.
By the time I had my own kids, I instinctively knew two things. First, using a pillowcase to maximize the candy haul is only a good idea in theory. In reality, it’s the parent who’ll be carrying that thing until the kid is satisfied there’s no more room left, so it’s much better to use something small. Second, no matter how busy life might be around that time of year, do NOT put off looking for a good Halloween costume until the last minute or both you and your kid will be in tears as you race through the store, trying to beat the sunset, searching for a costume but finding that all the good ones are gone and — once again — your kid will once again be going as a hobo or ghost.
Fortunately for parents like me there are an abundance of kids costumes at Halloween Express to choose from. And since most orders placed by 5 pm ship that same day — for free! — even us last-minute folks can rest easy. Whether your kid is the type to go for the latest Disney character or superhero, or is more inclined toward the retro classics like a fireman or princess, they have them. There’s even a cute selection of food-themed outfits. Pizza slice, anyone?
And don’t get me started on how adorable the costumes for infants and newborns are. Every year as I hand out candy to the kids in our neighborhood, there’s always someone carrying a baby in an heart-meltingly adorable Halloween baby costume. Now I know where they get them!
Their selection of costumes isn’t just limited to Halloween, either. Is Junior set to star as George Washington in the school play? They’ve got you covered. Or maybe little Janie loves playing cowgirl? They have an adorable outfit for that, too! There’s even a nice selection of religious-themed outfits perfect for Christmas and Nativity performances with such good pricing you won’t be smarting all year over the expense.
Of course, you just might be so proud of your costume choice you’ll want to show it off. In that case, why not throw a kid’s costume party? Don’t worry, with such a cute costume, your kid is bound to be the star!
