Do What We Say, Not What We Google

by Venomous Kate

From the “Oh, You Effing-Idiots, You’ve Got To Be Kidding” file:

Google wants people to stop using “Google” as a verb.

So, does this mean they’re going to, well, un-Google the dictionary?

And, most importantly for those of us who bought into Google’s IPO… does this mean they’ve actually figured out how to unring a bell?!!

  1. The problem is that they could lose their copyright on their brand. Sort of like Kleenex already has.

(I used to be a tech writer — legal would kill us if we slipped up an let a product name become a verb! Or a noun, for that matter…)

  2. Yep, I believe the copyright (or is it trademark?) issue is their primary concern. It’s something Google has been cautioning against for a couple of years now.

  3. Kleenex Band-aid.. Coke Pepsi.. They might be at the top but there will always be midgets standing on their shoulders… Get used to it.
