A while back, Glenn said he’d permit the playing of Barry Manilow songs as a form of torture intended to extract information from terrorists in U.S. custody.
Looks like he may be on to something:
NELSON, New Zealand (AFP) – Authorities in the New Zealand city of Nelson have threatened rowdy teenagers with the latest in crime-fighting technology — the music of US crooner Barry Manilow.
Police are considering playing “Copacabana”, “Mandy”, “I Write the Songs” and other Manilow classics, along with similar easy listening music from other artists, in prime downtown spots to discourage young people from loitering.
Police in the popular South Island tourist city believe the Manilow tunes will disperse groups who congregate in an inner-city carpark which has been the scene of fights and rowdy behaviour, The Press newspaper reported Wednesday.
It’s rather frightening when truth is stranger than blogging.

Bwah! You know, I hear that if you do that blogging thing RIGHT (I mean “correctly,” not politics-wise) it IS truth.
Or something.
Heh.

Kind of like saying “Life imitates blogs,” huh?

Zackly. But what do I know?

“…believe the Manilow tunes will disperse groups…”
Its a crapshoot – it’ll either effectively disperse them or incite rioting. Manilow is simply that sort of inadvertent provocateur. it must be gift. tear gas and beanbag bullets would the more merciful method to manuever the miscreant behaving elsewhere.
