Things are pretty different. No, you almost certainly would not recognize 42nd street. Frankly that's a good thing. The windows are something close to as lavish as ever. There are sax players on the steps of New York Public Library and in the subways. It feels different, certainly. But I'd be hard pressed to describe what's actually changed.
