So. Whatcha Doin’?
If I were any more bored I’d be wood.
Yeah, I didn’t find that funny, either. But that’s about as entertaining as I’ve been this week. Hence, the blog silence.
The up-side to homeschooling one’s child is the amount of contact one has with one’s child. The down-side to homeschooling one’s child is the amount of contact one has with one’s child. I’m about mothered out, despite repeatedly reminding myself this week that “mother” is not just a noun, but also a verb.
I’ve been biting my tongue all afternoon, trying to hold back a few verbs that have been threatening to burst forth. I’m hankering for a vacation — from my routine, my husband, my kids and, perhaps, from myself.
Instead, I’m narrowing down my list of five possible paint colors for my bedroom. (Yes, if you’ve been reading closely, the list has expanded from one I was crazy about to include four others. I don’t know why.)
But this is the weekend that it’s going to get done. I will finally — FINALLY! — be done bitching and blitching about the two adjacent poorly-painted grass green walls and the equally ugly two putty colored ones, all of which came with the house when we bought it, and are the first and last things I look at each day.
I’m even going to make a special trip to Target (Tar-jay, for you Lileks fans) to pick up some 108-inch drapes that will finally — FINALLY! — cover the semi-circle window which even louvered blinds can’t seem to completely shade. And that, my friends, means that my bedroom will finally — FINALLY! — be truly dark at night.
Ugh. Why have I waited so long???
So. What are you doing this weekend?
Recovering. Work has been… challenging… these last few days. I thought I might go to one of my SCA medieval events, but I am just flat out tired.
(Hence my relative lack of blogging…)
It is task that are always available that get put off. that is why one sets deadlines.
Advice on the paint color… always choose a color named after food. I learned that from a friend and the advice has always worked. My home office is now painted in peanut butter and cafe mocha.
Weekend is a whole list for me: garden ninja, cleaning the espresso maker thingie majiggie, preparing for a huge trade show, and teaching a tactical weapon defense class. It’s always beeter when you get to discharge a weapon!
Returning an expensive necklace that kept falling apart; shopping for capris and possibly new sandals. It’s supposed to rain all weekend so I need some retail therapy.
I need to paint my new apartment, too… eventually. Everything is white – which I like, for the time being, because I know the paint covers the multitude of sins of the previous tenant. (Although it is kinda gross to think of all the scuzz that lies beneath… Someone who once visited here called it a hellish pigsty.)
It’s 1:15 in the afternoon. I woke up at five took care of business and came back home at 11:30. Spent some time with the daughter and then sent her and her mother to the mall with the three houseguests. I’m going to drink two glasses of red wine, eat two egg mcmuffins and take a two-hour nap. Shower, shave and take everyone out to dinner at a Greek restaurant. Where I will see if I can get fried flatfish (ray) which I like very much. Probably, I will have to settle for grilled octopus. Tomorrow is another day.
I thought it was tar-zhay?
Yesterday evening, I could not get ray but I did find grilled octopus for appetizer, and had skate with garlic mashed potatoes and grilled fiorina peppers and zuchini for the main course. No booze, I was the designated driver (I usually am).
Today we went for lunch at 1:30 and they were still serving brunch. So I had the “carne asada”: 8-ounce skirt steak cooked medium rare, two scrambled eggs, small cubed potatoes, refried bean and avocado salsa on the side and a gigantic corn tortilla. I finished everything except the tortilla. No booze again. A rootbeer. Bought the daughter a new bicycle and helmet and spent the rest of the afternoon outside while she showed it off to all her friends.
Now the daughter has had her dinner and her bath and is playing in her room with her dollhouse so I’ve poured myself two fingers of Johnny Walker Black. Nobody else is showing much interest in eating so it will probably be a salad and cold cuts.
we went to the mall for new clothes for the hubby and I got myself a haircut and then we stopped in at the Second Wind exercise equipment store and he bought a new Bow-flex. We’ll bring in the old one and then take home the new one. This one is newer and betterer and we don’t have to switch stuff around, just go for it. Comes with a home visit from a personal trainer too. That’s the best part I think…
Did you become wood? are you a tree?
