The Ice Storm Cometh
Today’s freezing mist is now treacherous black ice on the streets. Also, it’s freakin’ cold! Reading the National Weather Forecast for our area is enough to make me want to crank the heating blanket to 11:
PERIODS OF FREEZING RAIN…MODERATE AT TIMES…ARE EXPECTED TO
DEVELOP BY LATE THIS EVENING AND CONTINUE THROUGH THE OVERNIGHT
HOURS. NEAR STEADY TEMPERATURES IN THE MIDDLE TO UPPER 20S COMBINED
WITH INCREASED PRECIPITATION INTENSITIES WILL LEAD TO MAJOR ICE
ACCUMULATIONS ACROSS THE WARNING AREA
Fun, fun, fun, folks!
Just in case power or internet access goes out — which often happens during such weather — I’ve re-installed my Twitter gadget on the left sidebar and will occasionally send “Tweets” from my cell phone. So keep an eye on it if the page starts looking stale.
This way, you can still get your Venom fix, and I can continue having an audience for my blitching if my in-laws actually make it here tomorrow. (They’re driving from the Southeast, which is supposed to get the brunt of the storm.)
Well Kate, I also appreciate a good weather event but here in Shawnee, we got next to nothing. That means school will not be canceled tomorrow and I will have to work.
On the positive side, Tuesday looks like another chance for winter to announce herself again!! Cross your fingers.
It’s not bad here in Leavenworth, either, from what I can see out the window. (Although I haven’t seen one single car on the road today.) The streets are all white since we don’t really have much in the way of a plowing/salt crew, and there’s a freezing drizzle falling.
Still, it wasn’t as bad as they’d seemed to be warning us about.
Which means my in-laws will probably be here any minute. They’re coming from Branson, and I’d heard the roads are much worse out that way. I’m sure that won’t stop them, though.
We’re getting the same junk down here in OK. We actually had a thunderstorm while it was freezing rain. I went out earlier today and cleaned my car off so it won’t be so horrible tomorrow morning when I head out to work, if I can get out of my apartment complex. Stay warm. It’s supposed to be through here by Tuesday night/Wednesday.
I love those NWS all uppercase warnings. Mine says:
With three kids in three schools, this isn’t what I want to hear.
Hawaii’s looking better all the time isn’t it, Kate.
Nah. I really do love winter. I’m just not a fan of driving in it.
Wow! Sounds like quite some weather! It’s not too bad over here in Europe! I thought it was cold but after reading your entry I’m reconsidering!
It’s supposed to be 80 today in S.C. I asked my daughter what would make her Christmas perfect. She said, “Snow.”
Can we come visit?
You might actually be interested in a post on my blog today about the Oprah/Obama rally and vote-buying. Come visit while you’re too snowed in to do anything else!
Hey, I’ll trade room & lodging at the Venomous Chalet, complete with snowball fights and sledding down our hill, if you’ll let the Big-Eyed Boy play, too, so I can take a nap!
