The Rumors Of My Demise Were Only Somewhat Exaggerated

by Venomous Kate

After 48 hours of 102+ fever and a lung-searing cough that just won’t quit, I feel like crap warmed over. The good news is that my fever broke sometime last night and, for the most part, I’m up and functioning again.

The bad news is that I have a gazillion emails to catch up on, five blogs that haven’t been updated in days, a kid who has been so bored watching Mommy sleep that he’s actually begging to do homeschool lessons today, and a house that looks like tornado hit it.

Meanwhile, despite having slept all but perhaps four hours since Tuesday, I still feel exhausted. Must be from all of those Nyquil-induced dreams about chasing George Clooney with a roll of duct tape while Cindy Crawford asked me for makeup tips. Man, that Nyquil is good stuff.

If I figure out who’s responsible for infecting me with the flu I’m gonna kick the snot out of them. Just as soon as I rest up.

  4. Yes! Timmer has exactly the right idea. Drop the hint that he brought the flu home, then capitalize on the resulting guilt.

    Works every time.

  5. Guilt doesn’t work on VH, unfortunately. That’s probably due to overzealous application of it on my part when we were first married.

Now, waiting until he has the flu and is delirious with fever might work….

  6. Glad you are up and around again! Take it easy and don’t go nuts cleaning the house, I did mine today and I feel exhausted. Take your time recovering, milk what you can out of it.

  11. We’ve missed you. That sounds like really bad stuff. Whoever gave it to you probably has a lot of snot you could kick out of them….

Don’t overdo during your recovery. (Besides, you might spread it.)

  12. One thing to consider is that alcohol is a disinfectant. Perhaps a nice gin martini is in order? As a preventative measure, of course.

And I’m sorry to hear that guilt no longer works. It’s always a sad day when effective tools are lost.

  13. Glad to hear you’re alive, even if not so well. Looking forward to your triumphant return.

  14. Kate,
Good to hear you are almost up and around. Take care of your self.

  15. Kat, it turns out that alcohol when taken internally is NOT a good idea for someone recovering from the flu.

On the other hand, I had a lovely time singing two songs with these guys on Friday night. Not that I remember much of it, mind you, but I’ve been told that I had a lot of fun.

So much so that I landed myself back in bed all day yesterday.

  16. Three shots of whiskey, almost that much water, a teaspoon of sugar, a stick of cinnamon, in a small sauce pan. Bring to almost boil. Pour into thick mug to protect hands from heat. Sip gently. Take two hour nap. Repeat.
