The only store that should be showing Christmas decorations already is Hallmark – those of us who have to wrap presents early need someplace to buy wrapping paper, other than that, I don’t think the Christmas stuff should come out until after Thanksgiving.

You don’t even have to claim you’re being “environmentally friendly”. Just say you’re

a. fighting the greeting card conspiracy
b. saving money by not spending it on stamps, which are going up in price AGAIN next year
c. not sending cards because mailing correspondence cards is an evolutionary artifact of a long-past age

I wish I could do any of these, but I’ll be guilt-tripped into spending $50 on cards and another $10 on stamps this year by the wife, who believes more in sending cards than anything else holiday-related.

Thanksgiving stuff doesn’t go up until Halloween is over. We just turn the jack-o-lanterns around so they look like plain pumpkins. This weekend we take down the Halloween Dept 56 display.

Christmas stuff doesn’t go up until the daughters come home from college in December. I would however like to put up the lights when its not freezing out.

Christmas cards. I don’t think we have actually addressed and mailed the Christmas cards since the first daughter left for college. I don’t think we found a picture and ordered cards last year either. We could probably print address labels to speed the process, but then we would have to write some fiction to describe whatever we did this year. Who’s in what year and which ever major this semester (and who cares).

I must confess that I have done some Christmas shopping and purchased Christmas cards. What!? They were on sale at Borders.

I have as my goal for this weekend to have my parent’s Christmas gifts purchased and wrapped. I do not use credit cards and I pay cash for everything so this spreads out the expense over a couple of months.
