I think the early exit polls were blatant lies, crafted to give the impression Kerry would win, thus giving extra motivation to the Dems and take the wind out of the Republicans' determination. All you have to do is look at how long it took some of the "news" organizations to call a state for Bush. Even when it became apparent that Kerry would have to win every single uncounted vote, they still wouldn't call Ohio.
