Kerry, The Flashback?
Daniel Henninger has some interesting thoughts on the galvanization of John Kerry and why electability may be irrelevant to what he calls the “Primary Democracts”: those who pick the primary winners and party’s policies.
These Democrats opposed the Vietnam War, and like Mr. Kerry, that event serves as sextant in their political journey. Primary Democrats regard their active and successful opposition to Vietnam as moral affirmation of their world view, which holds, more as a matter of belief than principle, that any American foreign policy not of their making is too aggressive, morally suspect and wholly wrong.
Which, of course, also explains the resurgent interest in President Bush’s military service: how better to illustrate the contrast between their 1960s experiences, except by striking an emotional chord in the hearts of those old enough to have lived through – and railed against – “Nixon’s war.”
