Support The Elderly. Buy A Lap Dance.

The law capping Medicaid’s nursing home benefits for senior citizens at $35 per day was created back in the 1980s. During that same time, inflation has nearly doubled. As a result, that $35 just doesn’t stretch far anymore, which means many low-income senior citizens in nursing homes are spending their “golden years” in misery.

Florida state Rep. Rick Kriseman has a plan to fix that by encouraging people to frequent strip clubs more often and buy more lap dances.

Kind of.

The proposed law, House Bill 751, would create a sales tax on “adult entertainment services” that would be fed to low-income nursing homes, the Sun reported. These funds would defray the cost of some services for senior citizens, including haircuts and trips to the movies.

Men throughout Florida may very well have good cause to rejoice if this Bill passes. After all, how can a wife complain when her husband announces he’s going to do something nice for his mother-in-law by stepping out for a quick lap dance?

That’s freakin’ awesome.

There’s an obvious extension to this, too….buy the lap dance for a senior citizen! They get the benefit of the lap dance AND they get the tax benefit. Win win for everybody!

I don’t know, WG. That’s putting an awful lot of strain on an aging vascular system….

Okay, but what a way to go! Shoot the geezers full of Viagra, get em a lapdance, and let em go with a smile.

We justify state lotteries by earmarking money for education. We tax gas and use it for alternative fuels. I’m not sure if liquor or tobacco taxes are earmarked.

Overall, I think some of these “bad” things (smoking, gambling, drinking, strip clubs, etc) need to be legal to keep the money out of the mob but then, we start justifying them by earmarking them for “social causes”. It’s weird and I like it. I’d like to see marijuana heavily taxed to help the elderly and to stop funding criminals. Any thoughts on whether the state should make prostition legal and taxable and where the funds should go? I suppose health care would be appropriate.

I’m all in favor of legalizing it, provided we don’t equate making something legal with making something moral.

As far as where the funds should go? I’d be in favor of spending tax proceeds from prostitution on free health care clinics in high-risk neighborhoods, job training- and Head Start programs.

Then again, I’m increasingly feeling like less of a Republican these days.
