Absolutely! Not to mention how convenient it would be to keep it in your purse and always have something available to read when standing in line or waiting in the doctor’s office or whatever.

I want one! Not that I’ll ever give up paper books, but I spend a lot of time traveling (this summer I’ll be spending two days on a train to get to CO, and then another 2 days to get back to LA) and it would be great to not have to accommodate all the books I always want to bring when I’m vacationing! Also, if they offer text books I would definitely buy one. I’m in college, and even though my college has a rental system, it’s still a pain to haul them around.

I don’t think I could ever actually abandon books altogether. I enjoy them for all the same reasons you mentioned. Plus, I can’t fall asleep at night without reading for a while, and I just don’t think a glowing screen would be as relaxing as a book.

But I’d love being able to read newspapers and magazines with a pad, particularly since that would let me carry 200 of them in my purse.

No, no ,no. Please keep PADs where they belong – in Star Trek. There’s something to be said for libraries, the smell of old books, the frumpy old lady with horn-rimmed glasses, and just plain ol’ tradition. Sitting at a coffee shop, reading the paper, actually turning the pages of a book or newspaper, now that’s reading. This kind of technology has a place, but please don’t dampen the pleasure of turning a page.

LOL. I imagine it’ll do just that if it catches on. Speaking of which, thanks for reminding me that I have four huge boxes of paperbacks to take down to the used bookstore. Hopefully I can turn them into a little bit of spending money for Christmas.
