Very cool, and very thought-provoking. The soundtrack’s pretty good, too.

I feel like the stupidest person on Planet Earth after that. Thanks Kate!LOL! Really, you’re right. This does make you think. Does the Western World have any hope of advancement in the 21st century? It sure makes you wonder whether the bloated cost of a University education is really worth it,doesn’t it?
The part about India’s kids who are honor students outnumbering ALL of America’s kids shocked the hell out of me. I’m really of two minds on it: on the one hand, it galls me that such smart kids are working for peanut wages on outsourced jobs; on the other, it makes me wish more Americans realized that if they want jobs to stay here, they’d better realign some priorities and put education first.
What I’m interested in about that particular statistic is the notion that still, the skilled information technology jobs we outsource to India are categorically a disaster.
There’s something else missing
I think my head exploded.
VK: the stats taken at face value can be daunting, but there’s far more to it than numbers. Even in the current political and economic climate—even the one we’re about to face—our society by and large has maintained conditions that promote the most efficient and productive direction for the top percentiles of our intelligent folks. The most intelligent children in China and India face challenges that our most intelligent do not. At first I thought the the whole presentation was about our decline, and it wasn’t, so I was pretty happy about that.
