Wonder what Coke’s next ad campaign is going to be? Maybe, have a Coke and a tune?
Coca-Cola is to offer albums for download on its new music website for as little as 6.40.
Singles will cost from 80p on mycokemusic.com, which launches on Monday.
Described as “the first consumer branded, legitimate downloadable music site”, it will feature more than 250,000 new and old tracks.
The company says it will have the largest collection of legal downloads available on the net.
No word whether the site is going to be restricted to UK users only, but it’s still a noteworthy development. I expect we’ll see a lot of corporate partnerships with music companies designed to target consumers by luring them to purchase the corporate product in exchange for points that can be cashed in on authorized music downloads.
Interesting, isn’t it? Not 30 years ago, musicians were balking at the notion of selling out, priding themselves on being separate from the mainstream and disinterested in paltry bourgeoisie things like money. Now, big businesses may be their biggest fans… and vice versa.
