Big news for iPod Nano owners: starting in mid-January Apple’s iTunes store will offer rentals of Fox movies that can be downloaded straight to your Nano for a price that’s yet to be announced.
Not that I’ll be upgrading my iPod to one that plays video. I’ve been renting and buying movies and TV shows to my computer via Amazon Unbox
for a while now, and I love it.
Maybe that’s why I’m not in a hurry to go digital despite the mandatory broadcasting change in 2009. In this day and age, I see no reason to be tied to a TV set, much less a sofa, anymore. Not when I can take what I want to hear, watch or read with me wherever I go.

Yeah we have a lot of that in the UK atm. Most channels let you watch on demand, some for free.
Typo?

I have an ipod that plays video and I rarely use it for video – I do have 4000 songs on it though; I should use it for my classroom because I wouldn’t have to chase down CD’s or DVD’s.
I wonder what this will do for Netflix???

I wouldn’t be able to SEE the darn things on a nano – yes I’ve looked at the screen. I can barely make out song titles, trying to watch a movie – that would be a no go.
I have a lovely HD tv – why would I want to download stuff to a computer or even worse a nano when I can watch on my HD television? I don’t think so.

Those screens really are tiny, aren’t they? My phone lets me play TV shows from my cable stations if I want it. Talk about a tiny screen, sheesh. I’d need a magnifying glass for that, I think.
Personally, I’m waiting for these to come down in price.

We only have one tv that isn’t digital. Most have been digital for a while i.e. they have a cable inlet and RCA connectors on the TV and you don’t need a digital converter box from RadioShack to even hook up a DVD player or video game system. The one TV we have that isn’t digital (no remote control, antennae connections on the back that take the little u-shaped wire ends and need a screwdriver to secure) we already have a RadioShack converter box for. Cable will have to get rid of their analog channels, but satellite is all digital now anyway.
Digital is not HD. I think some people get confused.

In that case I have, in fact, been confused. Which sucks, because it means that our TVs are all digital ready, and I was looking forward to playing upon VH’s cheapskate tendencies by telling him that we might as well stop watching TV rather than buy new ones.
Dang.
