I’m Not Buying It.
I wonder which ad company the Sauds hired for this one:
Saudi Arabia has begun a radio advertising campaign in 19 U.S. cities citing the Sept. 11 Commission report as proof that it has been a loyal ally in the fight against al-Qaeda.
The two advertisements quote the commission’s conclusion that the Saudi government did not fund al-Qaeda. One ad cites the report’s finding that Saudi Arabia stopped a 1998 plot to attack U.S. troops; the other cites a finding that Saudis were not flown out of the United States right after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.
A Saudi embassy spokesman, Nail al-Jubeir said the ads tell Americans “these are the facts that your own independent commission has said about Saudi Arabia. You make up your mind.”
I made up my mind on Sept. 12 and no amount of advertising is going to change it. As much as it pains me to agree with Michael Moore on anything, methinks the Sauds doth protest too much.

The Saudis didn’t fund Al-Qaeda. They funded the imams who funded the madrassas who funded Al-Qaeda. It’s called a paper trail in some circles, plausible deniability in others.
I am With Kate on This One…
“Saudi Arabia has begun a radio advertising campaign in 19 U.S. cities citing the Sept. 11 Commission report as proof that it has been a loyal ally in the fight against al-Qaeda.” Yeah Right, and the Pope is really Jewish!…
What it really is, is the House of Saud treading water trying to keep the Wahhabis from fomenting revolution.
Saud doesn’t care about terrorism much either way (as long as it’s not directed at them); the money to the Mullahs and madrassas is a simple payoff, from what I understand.
Ya’ll are rather over the top on this. There’s a lot going on in Saudi Arabia. The Middle East Journal has an excellent article about the various forces for reform.
the saudis knew. they just turned a blind eye. now it’s coming back to haunt them.
Winston Churchill in @1927 wrote that nations will someday have to deal with the wahabis of Saudi Arabia because they are a dangerous threat to the whole world. Everyone buried their heads in their, uh, …the sand.
For 80+ years the Saudis telegraphed to these dangerous vipers that they are weak and cowardly in the face of Wahabi evil.
Now the Saudi royals are being blackmailed after all these years of bowing and scraping to the wahabis. Spain and the Phillipines are placing themselves in the same position.
It’s not easy to overthrow a bully who allows you to rule. Perhaps the explosions in Saudi Arabia are a symbol of Wahabi displeasure.
We should all be encouraged by that. It gives the Saudi rulers moral authority to go after them at last…unless they weaken again.
Too brilliant. I can’t wait for the SCENIC SAUDI ARABIA tourism campaign: “Sand! Desolate beaches! Filipina sex slaves! Sand! Repressed homosexual jihadi psyhopaths! Zam Zam Cola! Sand!”
Saudi Arabia wants to be your friend
This morning on the way to work, I heard this radio ad on WMGK-FM. (Commercial MP3 from KFI-AM - it’s identical). Clearly, the negative publicity is getting to Saudi Arabia somehow. Maybe they’re losing some money. Maybe they’re afraid that
