Israel Intercepts Bombing Suspects
Looks like the Israeli military may have foiled a group of would-be homicide bombers:
The Israeli military said Thursday it intercepted a suspicious vessel in the Mediterranean, west of its port city of Haifa. Officials said the boat carried 36 CD-ROM disks with instructions on how to assemble bomb belts for homicide bombers. Israel also discovered 25 detonators for rockets and a radio-activation system for remote-control bombs.
Reportedly, a member of Yasser Arafat’s regime was on the boat at the time.
There are some indications that Bush and Abbas are not going to allow the recent spate of violence to completely de-rail the peace process, as signs point to their seperate meetings with President Bush who will be travelling to Europe and possibly the Gulf next week. Envoys of the two leaders are meeting with Bush aides today.
Meanwhile, the Palestinian Prime Minister is making efforts to increase pressure on Hamas to stop its attacks on Israel.
UPDATE: Not surprisingly, Hamas refused.
