It’s not like me to be this quiet throughout the day. So, I’m sure it will come as no surprise that there’s been a reason. The fact is, I’ve been cleaning up around here.

One of the most obvious things that I tidied is the long blogroll that usually appears in the left-hand sidebar. I’m trying a little experiment for a few days, just to see how it works and to see if it’s a practice that I can maintain.

I have simply found far too many blogs that I enjoy to be able to read each and every one on each and every day while also keeping up with my life away from the keyboard and EV. So that leaves me with the choice whether to spend my time mostly reading other blogs or mostly blogging here (giving up a life away from the keyboard isn’t an option unless I can run a pledge week to rival Andrew Sullivan’s). I’m choosing the latter because I enjoy it and it makes me happy. Meanwhile, by not feeling like I need to read the entire blogroll on a daily basis, perhaps I can let off some self-induced pressure that’s had me a mite bit testy lately. (Note to self: You really must write the latest Willa Update one of these days to explain just what you mean by “testy.”)

Anyway, here’s how I’m hoping to handle the blogrolls – both the Whole List of Prey and the Nibbles – for a while.

1. I did not remove any blogs from the blogroll. So shut up already.

2. The “Nibbles” simply reflect the first few blogs I visited this morning. That’s it. There are no other standards, no judgments passed in the course of deciding who’d be a “Nibble” and no super-secret code or handshake. No money exchanged hands in the process, and no animals were harmed in the making of this decision.

3. I seldom eat the same thing for breakfast two mornings in a row – or even twice in a week. Likewise, I seldom start my day reading the same blogs two days in a row, either. So expect the “Nibbles” to change daily, just like the referrer logs. (Convenient that they’re on the same sidebar, eh?)

4. I reserve the right to go back to the full length blogroll, to shorten my blogroll, or to have no blogroll whatsoever, depending on my mood. (Which, by the way, is particularly pissy right now so don’t fuck with me.)
