Read. My. Lips.

by Venomous Kate

Thus far this morning, there are at least a dozen emails in my InBox along the following lines:

Hey, why is my link to your entry [insert title here] not working? It pisses me off to have a broken link on my page!

So, for the slow kids, let me spell it out:

1. I have switched from MT to WP and I am never going back.

2. With over 3500 entries, I didn’t feel like editing my individual MT posts to redirect them to their new location in WordPress.

3. Yes, I know I could’ve used the “friendly permalink” structure and done a Mod_Rewrite or even a MySQL dump, both of which would’ve prevented this problem. I didn’t because I felt lazy. Happy?

4. You’re welcome to “fix” the link on your page and have it point to [insert entry title here]. Just use the search box to find it, or go to the Old Venom page where you can get a listing of all entries by title, category or date.

5. Or, ignore it and wait for the damn link to fall off your front page.

  1. Isn’t it amazing how anything a person does to their website causes so many people to show their true natures?

  2. Jeez, Kate. Didn’t you know you’re supposed to drop everything else in your life to fix 3500 links?! Where are your priorities??

    /sarcasm

In the right place, I’d say.

  3. I’ll second Chelle on her comment. By the way I am curious how much disc space was saved by the switch; I’m trying to find out if my estimate of 1/4 the MT disc usage is accurate.

  4. With MT, my database size was 54.3 meg and I used 180 meg of disk space. With WP, my database is all of 8.2 meg and I’m using only 52.99 meg of disk space. A very nice savings!

  5. If I spent the time searching for all the dead links when 99% of the people will never go back that far to find them, I wouldn’t have time to enjoy myself, not much fun.

Option 5 sounds bout right. Too much good stuff to read without bothering bout the old stuff.

    And isn’t Wp spiffy?

  6. Aside from saving space, what are the advantages of WordPress over MT? How easy/hard is it to switch?

  7. The following can’t be that difficult for you to do. Please. Oh, you accept bribes. Ok, tipjar visit coming momentarily.
