That article doesn't say what kind of Navy sub was deployed - a fast attack, like the one in the stock photo accompanying the story, is primarily a tactical weapon, and frankly I'd be very, very suprised if the carrier group operating there didn't have one on station. If it's an Ohio, well, that's a bit different, since the boomers are both a nuclear-missile platform and a special operations support platform. Either way, this could easily mean that additional bad things are about to happen....or not. It's hard to say, really. wg's last blog post..Don't bring a knife to an idiot fight.

Don’t panic about the sub. A fast attack is not the same as a boomer(ballistic missile sub). The Iranians like to use small patrol vessels and fast light attack surface craft. The fast attack subs have a few tricks of their own.

It’s about time the Gulf states woke up to what’s going on in their neighborhoods. When I deployed to Kuwait, all of our protective gear was locked away because the Kuwaitis didn’t have any and ours was bad for their morale.

We may be getting ready to smack Iran. That’s not the only way to read what’s being reported. The Turks have forces on the Iranian border, too. Putting too much emphasis on the Russian reporting is like saying we’re a police state because there are law enforcement officers in every town.
